Late Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo remembered on 8th Death Anniversary

The 8th death anniversary of Late Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo, former Chairman/CEC of LAHDC Leh, was solemnly observed at the Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo Memorial Park, Diskit Tsal (Housing Colony), on January 29.

The programme was organised with deep reverence and respect to commemorate the invaluable contributions of the late leader towards the social, political, and developmental progress of Ladakh. The ceremony commenced with the lighting of butter lamps by the Chief Guest, His Eminence Palga Rinpoche, followed by a prayer (Moslam).

A welcome address was delivered by Dorjay Stanzin Durbuk, a close relative of Late Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo, who highlighted his vision, leadership, and lifelong service to the people of Ladakh. This was followed by the traditional Khatak offering ceremony by VVIPs, family members, and close relatives as a mark of respect.

Tributes were paid through speeches by the Chief Guest, His Eminence Palga Rinpoche, and Rigzin Dorjey, Vice President of the Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA), who fondly remembered the legacy, values, and lasting impact of Late Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo on Ladakh’s governance and society.

Dr. Chimet Angmo, daughter of Late Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo, expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, officials, relatives, and members of the public for their presence and support in commemorating her father’s life and contributions.

The event witnessed the participation of senior officials, religious leaders, representatives of various organisations, family members, and citizens, reflecting the enduring respect and admiration for Late Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo across Ladakh.
