Ladakh Rural Livelihood Mission focuses holistic community development, livelihood enhancement

Joint Secretary (JS) MoRD Smriti Sharan convened a meeting of Ladakh Rural Livelihood Mission (LRLM), operating under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) on September 5.

During the meeting discussion was held on the progress of the mission and strategies for advancing community development and livelihood improvement in the Ladakh region.

Various presentations were delivered, offering insights into the Ladakh Rural Livelihood Mission's objectives for 2023-24, including human resource development, geographical coverage, MOU signings, staff orientation, institution building, and capacity building (IBCB). Presentations also covered the status of Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), social mobilization campaigns, aspirational blocks, action plans, financial inclusion, and efforts related to food, nutrition, health, and sanitation.

A dedicated presentation emphasized the promotion of farm livelihoods in Ladakh, with a focus on targets for the fiscal year 2023-24 and key enablers, such as community resource persons, capacity building, convergence, NPP engagement, and dedicated human resources. Progress made in the vibrant villages of UT Ladakh was also highlighted, with an emphasis on institution building, capacity building, and social mobilization campaigns.

Key areas of focus discussed during the meeting included the challenges and opportunities surrounding Self-Help Groups (SHGs), the importance of institutional strengthening, social inclusion, financial literacy, and yoga initiatives, capacity building for SHGs and community members, adherence to advisories and cadre policy, community engagement to address various issues, and the potential for e-commerce and skill development.

The meeting underscored the importance of government partnerships and collaboration with other states to facilitate exposure experiences, further strengthening the LRLM. The pivotal role of the Management Information System (MIS) team in mobilization activities was duly recognized, with plans underway to enhance communication and outreach. The promotion of farm livelihoods and the synergy of convergence efforts across various departments were reiterated as pivotal strategies aimed at maximizing the impact of community development initiatives.

In conclusion, the government remains steadfast in its commitment to the holistic development of Ladakh, with a focus on improving livelihoods, strengthening institutions, and fostering community participation. These efforts align with the broader goal of enhancing the overall well-being and prosperity of the region.
