Ladakh Poshan Mela held  Highlights the importance of providing nutritious food to children, pregnant & lactating mothers

Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) inaugurated Ladakh Poshan Mela 2023 organised by the Department of Social and Tribal Welfare, UT Ladakh, at Eco park on September 22.

Highlighting the importance of improving the nutritional outcomes of adolescents, children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers, LG praised the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, for coming up with schemes such as Poshan Abhiyan for healthy future generations. He commended Anganwadi workers for their selfless work of taking care of children and their nutritional requirements. He stated that the Anganwadi centres are the second homes of young children.

L-G stated that India will develop as a nation if we provide nutritious food to children and pregnant/lactating mothers as it will ensure a healthy society. He sought cooperation from everyone in aiming for healthy children, especially those between 3-6 years so that these children will remain healthy throughout their lives right from their schooling days.   

He distributed laptops to Anganwadi supervisors for timely updation of data on Poshan Tracker and also handed over monetary incentives of Rs 500 per month to the eligible Anganwadi workers and Anganwadi helpers.

Earlier, LG visited the stalls with information on various schemes such as the Integrated Child Development Programme, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, Scheme for Adolescent Girls (SAG), Mission Poshan 2.0. Commissioner Secretary, Department of Social Welfare Department, Smt Padma Angmo, and concerned officials apprised the HLG of various supplementary nutrition provided to children and pregnant/lactating mothers. They also informed him about Model Anganwadi Centres and Nomadic Anganwadi Centres and the celebration of the 6th Rashtriya Poshan Maah from September 1 to 30, 2023.

Director, Department of Social Welfare and Tribal Affairs, UT Ladakh, Tashi Dolma informed about various ongoing schemes for the welfare of children and lactating mothers in Ladakh.
