Ladakh Pollution Control Committee inspects wastewater disposal system at Chumathang Hot Spring
The Ladakh Pollution Control Committee (LPCC) conducted a comprehensive inspection of restaurants and other commercial establishments in and around the Chumathang Hot Spring area on February 18. The inspection also covered stretches along the Indus River and adjoining Army establishments to review the status of Liquid Waste Management (LWM) systems and ensure proper treatment and disposal of wastewater.
During the inspection, LPCC officials examined the existing wastewater treatment and disposal mechanisms. Necessary directions were issued to the concerned establishments wherever deficiencies were observed, with instructions for timely rectification to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
The Committee emphasised the importance of strict adherence to environmental norms by all stakeholders, including commercial establishments, local residents, and visitors, to safeguard Ladakh’s fragile and ecologically sensitive landscape.
LPCC further informed that it is mandated to monitor water quality in the region under the provisions of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act. In this regard, the general public has been urged not to litter or pollute water bodies across Ladakh.
Any individual or unit found violating environmental norms will be liable for penal action under the provisions of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, and other applicable laws, including the initiation of legal proceedings wherever necessary.
