Ladakh Organic Fair 2023 observed in Kargil

Ladakh Organic Fair 2023 organized by the Department of Agriculture, LAHDC Kargil was observed at Auditorium Hall Kargil on March 11.

Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan talked about the demerits of chemical fertilizers and importance of organic farming. He said the usage of manual fertilizers increases the fertility of soil and crops produced from it are healthy for consumption.

Khan said the participation of huge number of farmers in this event speaks about the success of this event and also expressed happiness over the fact that now fresh vegetables are available in Kargil in winter season which was impossible in earlier times and credited it to Ladakh Green Houses.

The CEC advised the farmers to practice robust forms of farming as the agriculture sector is a reliable and sustainable sector to generate revenue and strengthen the economy.

EC Mohsin Ali thanked UT Administration for funding the event and the LAHDC Kargil is committed to use the funds to organize this event to give awareness to farmers about organic farming.

He asked progressive farmers to use Ladakh Green Houses in good numbers and expressed optimism about a good agriculture season as there was sufficient snowfall this year.

Principal Scientist Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dr Akhone Mehdi spoke at length about the demerits of chemical fertilizers and the merits of organic farming. He asked the farmers to learn best practices of farming and asserted to use natural homemade vermicompost to promote sustainable organic farming.

CAO Mohammad Ali Khan informed about the purpose of the event and said that due to former LG Ladakh's vision organic Ladakh was conceptualized and expressed happiness that this practice is benefiting farmers and people avail fresh vegetables in winter season.

Later, the best Ladakh Green House practitioners were felicitated by the dignitaries and the dignitaries were felicitated by the concerned officers of the Agriculture Department.

Vegetables produced from Ladakh Green House were displayed during the event at different stalls and were later sold to the masses.
