Ladakh Legal Services Authority organizes first National Lok Adalat

Ladakh Legal Services Authority, under the chairmanship of Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, Chief Justice of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh, and Patron-in-chief of Ladakh Legal Services Authority, under the guidance of Justice Atul Sreedharan, Executive Chairman Ladakh Legal Services Authorities organized the first National Lok Adalat throughout the UT Ladakh on March 9.

The objective was to encourage maximum participation and achieve settlements in cases such as Bank Recovery Cases, Cheque Bounce cases under the NI Act (Negotiable Instruments Act) and other Civil Cases etc.

It was informed that a total of 724 cases were taken up by 12 benches during the day-long National Lok Adalat held at various courts across the UT Ladakh, out of which 461 cases were resolved. Additionally, an amount of Rs 2,312,696 was awarded as compensation or settlement in civil, criminal, BSNL bills, land acquisition matters, Traffic Challan, cheque dishonor, and bank recovery cases.

Member Secretary, Ladakh Legal Services Authority, Spalzes Angmo expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all the participants, including judicial officers, chairman, Secretaries of District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA) and Tehsil Legal Services Committees (TLSC), advocates, representatives of insurance companies and banks, court staff, and litigants. She lauded their pragmatic approach in settling such a large number of cases.
