Ladakh Cultural Academy Leh celebrates World Theatre Day

Ladakh Cultural Academy, Leh, in collaboration with the Ladakh Theatre Organization, celebrated World Theatre Day at the Lotsawa Auditorium Hall on March 27.

Commissioner Secretary of Tourism and Culture, UT Ladakh, Kacho Mehboob Ali Khan, was the chief guest on the occasion.

During the event, local artists from Leh showcased different theatrical performances depicting conflicts between humans and animals and script readings of a play highlighting the distortion of family ties in modern times.

The event served as a platform for artists to express themselves and showcase their talents in theatre art. Commissioner Secretary of Tourism, Kacho Mehboob Ali Khan, in his address, encouraged and appreciated the theatre artists and the entire team of the Cultural Academy Leh for their work and contribution to society through their artistic endeavours. He mentioned that through theatre art, the rich cultural heritage and timeless traditions of our region can be promoted worldwide through cultural exchange activities.

Additionally, he highlighted how theatre can bring about positive changes in society by shedding light on prevalent issues, which can have a significant impact, especially on the youth, guiding them towards making informed life choices. He emphasised the importance of introducing theatre education in schools and colleges, aiming to use the art form and the platform to raise awareness among students about different issues.

Mepham Otsal, Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee, emphasised the importance of theatre art in today’s world and how it shapes the overall development, especially of the younger generation.

Deputy Secretary Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages, Leh, Tsewang Paljor, was also present on the occasion. The event was also attended by art and theatre enthusiasts from the region.
