Ladakh Administration signs Green Hydrogen Generation Pilot Project MoU with NTPC

During the signing of an MoU for establishing 1.25 MW Green Hydrogen Generation pilot projects by National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).

Lieutenant Governor R K Mathur signed an MoU for establishing 1.25 MW Green Hydrogen Generation pilot projects by National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) on July 12.

L-G Mathur stated that the mantra of Carbon Neutrality is not a passive statement but an active one that requires continuous efforts. He expressed gratitude to NTPC for initiating this project in Ladakh and said that NTPC’s execution capabilities are exceptional and their entry into Ladakh is a welcome feature for achieving Ladakh’s vision of becoming the first green hydrogen fuel-based state in India.

“I visualize a future where palletized hydrogen can be used in households for health, power supply and for transportation etc.”, he added.

L-G Mathur assured Ladakh administration’s full cooperation in expediting their project and urged the company for early completion of the project and help Ladakh realize the PM’s vision

CEC, LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson termed the event a historic and revolutionary step towards making Ladakh a Carbon Neutral UT. He emphasized that Ladakh has huge resources available for generating renewable energies and such steps will pave the way for a sustainable solution.
He further extended his gratitude to NTPC - REL, India for accepting the agreement to establish the first Green Hydrogen Technology project of the country in Leh Ladakh.

 Secretary PDD & NRE, Ravinder Kumar stated that converting hydrogen into green energy would be a great step towards clean energy and would start a new chapter in carbon neutrality in the Ladakh region.
 
 He informed that UT Administration is working on different projects like geothermal, solar, and wind and micro-hydro sectors. He said that by combining all these sectors, it would be possible to make Ladakh a carbon-neutral region.
 
 CEO NTPC – REL, Mohit Bhargava addressing the event expressed his gratitude to the UT administration for supporting the project and shared their commitment to the vision of carbon-neutral Ladakh. He also added that the project will be initiated at the earliest and that he looks forward to collaborations.
 
 GM NTPC, DMR Panda also spoke on the occasion and thanked the administration for their support.
 
 Earlier, Lieutenant Governor inaugurated two solar trees installed at UT Civil Secretariat by NTPC REL. The solar trees, 3.3 kWp each, are expected to generate approximately 10,000 – 12,000 units of green electricity in a year.
