Labour department gives financial assistance to registered workers

Financial assistance to the tune of ₹ 43, 87,000 were distributed among the nominees and children of registered active workers on March 30 in Leh.

Speaking on the occasion, Avny Lavasa, DC urged upon the labour fraternity to compulsorily get them registered with the administration so that they would become eligible for availing financial assistance for various purposes such as education and higher education of their children, medical assistance, marriage assistance, maternity benefits and death assistance.

She further said that more welfare schemes for the workers can be devised if the administration has more data and registration of workers.

Ghulam Nabi Tak, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Leh briefed about the role and responsibility of the department and said that at present 2612 local workers are registered which includes 890 male and 1722 female workers.

He stressed the need for registration by all the un-registered workers working in the district to avail all the financial benefits made available by the department.

The amount was distributed by Avny Lavasa which includes ₹ 2, 50,000 for higher education (Degree Course) for five children at the rate of ₹ 50,000 each beneficiaries, ₹ 38, 72,000 among the children of 552 workers who are pursuing education at lower level in different educational institutions and₹ 30,000 each for higher education (Diploma Course) among the children of two registered workers.

Padma Gyalson dependent of Late Tondup Yangzes who died as an active worker from Satto, Changthang received a cheque of ₹ 2, 05,000 as a death assistance.
