L-G visits Govt Degree College, Kargil Inaugurates Girls’ Hostel & Beauty Skill Centre, releases multilingual college magazine & annual Ladakhi traditional design calendar

Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) and First Lady Neelam Mishra visited Government Degree College (GDC) Kargil and inaugurated Girls Hostel and Beauty Skill Centre on June 7.

Chairman of LAHDC Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan, and Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education, Padma Angmo were also present.

L-G also released the multilingual college magazine, ‘Kaliman’ and the annual Ladakhi traditional design calendar bearing G20/Y20 theme.

Commending the enrolment of around 70 percent of girls’ students at GDC Kargil, LG complimented the college faculty and other staff for providing quality education to students. 

Advising students to focus on their academic and personality development to inculcate a sense of nationalism and learn to render service to society, he stated that the students must make themselves worthy of the degree/certificates provided by the educational institutions after they pass out. He emphasized the need to follow the stages of academics- read, analyze and then reach a conclusion; ensure they dabble in personality development activities, particularly extra-curricular activities so that they can develop compassion and traits of generosity.

LG stated that the people of India are secure and happy because of the sacrifices and selfless services of the Army jawans at the borders. He asked students to develop a sense of nationalism and prepare themselves to work for the development of the country, whenever the need arises. He advised students to put others before themselves and do something for others in their best capacities.

Appreciating the apex leadership of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi for coming up with various initiatives for the development of the country and the youth, he highlighted the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 conceptualized by the Central Govt which focuses on the actual requirements and prospects of students. He assured to provide all possible support for the development and promotion of education at all levels.

LG visited the Ladakhi Arts and Design Skill Centre at college and interacted with students who showcased their knitting, embroidery, and tailoring skills using recycled materials and colourful motifs. He distributed diplomas to students of Skill Centre who completed the one-year diploma course in Ladakhi Craft under the Design Innovation project of the Union Minister of Education and also among students of Ladakhi Craft and Design Skill Centre who completed the one-year diploma course in Ladakh under the Design Innovation Project of the Union Ministry of Education. 

He also felicitated NCC/NSS cadets for their selection and participation in the National Republic Day Parade 2023 in New Delhi and also students and teacher squads of the college for winning the Vande Bharat competition and for participating at Kartavya Path in New Delhi on the eve of Republic Day 2023.

Principal, GDC Kargil, Dr Amina Qari highlighted the achievements of the college which was established in 1995.

Students of GDC Kargil showcased cultural dance performances on the occasion.
