L-G approves UT Ladakh Haj Committee for three-year term Ghulam Abbas Abidi appointed chairman; panel to oversee pilgrimage arrangements
Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, has approved the constitution of the UT Ladakh Haj Committee, appointing its chairman and members for a period of three years.
The decision follows the completion of the tenure of the previous UT Haj Committee in 2025.
Ghulam Abbas Abidi has been appointed as the Chairman of the committee. Other members include Ashay Mallo, Mohammad Hussain, Sheikh Liaquat Ali, Haji Ghulam Mohammad, Bilal Ahmad, and Zahara Banoo.
“The constitution of the UT Haj Committee reflects our commitment to ensuring that pilgrims from Ladakh receive all necessary support for a smooth, safe, and spiritually fulfilling Haj pilgrimage. I am confident that the newly appointed chairman and members will work with dedication and sensitivity to address the needs of pilgrims and uphold the highest standards of service,” Saxena said.
The new committee has been constituted after due consultations with stakeholders to ensure inclusive and effective representation.
The UT Haj Committee will play a key role in facilitating the Haj pilgrimage for residents of Ladakh. Its responsibilities include screening and processing applications, coordinating vaccination and training schedules, organising orientation programmes, acting as a liaison between pilgrims and central authorities, and ensuring welfare, assistance, and logistical support throughout the pilgrimage process.
