KVK-Leh celebrates World Milk Day

Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Leh, Ladakh celebrated World Milk Day through an online event ‘e-Kisan Gosthi’ on June 1.

Due to the corona pandemic, the event was celebrated virtually with farmers, youths, extension functionaries and students of the region.

Dr. Parveen Kumar, SMS (Ag. Extension), KVK-Leh briefed the participants about the history and the theme for World Milk Day 2021. He spoke about the importance of milk in ensuring good health and sustainable practices in the dairy sector by which dairy farmers can be empowered.  

Dr. Sabiya Asmat, SMS (Food Science), KVK-Leh spoke about processing and value addition in milk and milk products. She also talked about the scope of value addition of different local products in the region and the role of these products in food and nutritional security. 
Dr. F. D. Sheikh, Programme Coordinator KVK-Leh threw light on different management practices of livestock. While interacting with the farming community, he discussed in detail the different practices of livestock including feeding, shelter, breeding, disease management and other related aspects of dairy farming. 

The farming community highlighted the problems faced in the dairy sector and various diseases of livestock. All their queries were responded to by Dr. Sheikh.
The programme was also attended by Associate Director Extension, SKUAST-K, Dr. Amal Saxena and Dr. Liaqat Choudhary, Senior Extension Specialist, SKUAST-K and functionaries of the department of agriculture. Dr. Vikas Gupta SMS (Plant Pathology) and Dr. Kunzang Lamo SMS (Vegetable Science) at KVK- Leh.

The technical support for organizing the event was provided by Sonam Angchuk, the Computer programmer at KVK-Leh.
