Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nyoma, holds training under Skill Development Programme

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, SKUAST-K, Nyoma, conducted a 15 days vocational training programmes on spinning under Skill Development Programme for the womenfolk of Tibetan Refugees Camp, Nyoma and Kesar village of Changthang region. 

At Tibetan Refugees Camp, Nyoma, 15 women underwent the said programme which was concluded on 23 December, whereas, at Kesar village, 8 women participated and the event was concluded on 30th January. 

Spinning machines were later distributed among the participants. The aim of these programmes were to train the women folk of Changthang region in order to lessen the time and labour of the traditional way of spinning through spinning machines. Spinning is one of the main sources of income generation in Changthang region in which mostly women are involved.

One day awareness programme on ‘Vegetable cultivation technology and post-harvest handling of vegetable crops’ was also conducted by the same centre at Nyoma village on 12 February in which 73 farmers participated.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. M.S. Kanwar, Head, KVK, Nyoma, said that leafy vegetables can be grown under greenhouses through its proper management even in Changthang region which was earlier considered to be impossible. 

He stressed the farmers to visit the centre and procure new technologies and inputs related to vegetable growing. He enlisted the agricultural inputs which are presently providing by KVK, Nyoma, for the benefit of the agrarian community of the region. Dr. Anwar Hussain, Scientist, KVK, Nyoma, stressed the farmers about the importance of consumption of vegetables not only in summer but also in the winter season. 

For this, the farmers should switch to the various preservation techniques, traditional as well as novel ones. Phunstog Dorjay, Numberdar Nyoma on behalf of the farmers, put up the demands against the scientists.
