Khidmat-e-Awaam camp brings government services to doorsteps in Zanskar
A weekly Khidmat-e-Awaam outreach camp was successfully organised at Stongday Panchayat Halqa in Zanskar in line with the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, Zanskar. The initiative aimed to ensure doorstep delivery of government services and strengthen administrative outreach at the grassroots level.
The camp commenced with an introductory address by Tourist Officer Zanskar and Nodal Officer of the camp, Ghulam Rasool Lal, who highlighted the administration’s commitment to responsive governance and effective public service delivery.
Officials from various departments, including ICDS, Health, PHE/I&FC, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Agriculture, Education, Animal/Sheep Husbandry, Social & Tribal Welfare, Handicrafts & Handloom, FCS&CA, and financial institutions such as J&K Bank and SBI, actively participated in the camp. They created awareness about various government schemes and encouraged people to avail themselves of the benefits.
During the camp, several services were delivered across departments. The Revenue Department issued certificates, processed inheritance mutations, and completed verifications under PM-KISAN and ration cards. The PHE/I&FC Department addressed issues related to water supply, irrigation schemes, and de-siltation of ponds. The ICDS Department registered new beneficiaries, conducted growth monitoring, and facilitated Aadhaar enrolments and updates.
Financial institutions registered beneficiaries under social security schemes such as APY, PMJJBY, and PMSBY, while also spreading awareness about self-employment schemes like PMEGP. The Agriculture Department registered beneficiaries under PM-KISAN and the Ladakh Greenhouse Scheme and distributed high-yield vegetable seeds. The Rural Development Department provided information on MGNREGA and NRLM and registered beneficiaries under various schemes.
The Health Department conducted screening for non-communicable diseases and generated Golden Cards under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. The Education Department facilitated Aadhaar updates and promoted school enrolment. Other departments, including Handicrafts & Handloom, Animal/Sheep Husbandry, Tourism, and Social & Tribal Welfare, also provided awareness and on-the-spot services.
During the Shaam-e-Awaam session, the public raised several key issues and demands, including the timely supply of construction materials under rural development schemes, promotion of cash crops such as potatoes and peas, distribution of fruit saplings, and early completion of the Community Library and Multi-Utility Centre at Lower Kumik. Residents also highlighted the need for drinking water facilities at local institutions, repair of water supply lines, proper maintenance of irrigation kuls, and demarcation of religious structures.
The outreach camp witnessed active participation from the general public and proved to be an effective platform for service delivery, awareness generation, and grievance redressal.
