Kargil marks Yoga day with mass participation and cultural showcase

The District Administration Kargil celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga with great enthusiasm and participation at the Khri Sultan Cho Sports Stadium, Biamathang on June 21. The event highlighted the importance of yoga as a practice for physical health, mental peace, and spiritual well-being, drawing attendees from all sections of society.
The celebration saw active participation from senior officials, school children, yoga enthusiasts, and the general public. Notable dignitaries present included Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon; Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar; MLA Bahu Jammu, Vikram Singh Randhawa; SSP Ram R.; Directors of Tourism, Social Welfare, and School Education; Joint Director Youth Services and Sports; ASP Kargil Nitin Yadav; and various sectoral officers.
In his address, CEC Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon underlined the profound impact of yoga on mind, body, and soul. Drawing parallels between prayer and yoga, he described both as tools for inner balance and well-being. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for elevating yoga to an international platform, now recognized in over 150 countries.
Dr. Akhoon also lauded the efforts of the District Administration and allied departments for the successful conduct of the event and warmly welcomed dignitaries from other states.
Speaking to the media, Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar emphasized the importance of making yoga a daily habit rather than a once-a-year practice. He shared plans to introduce regular yoga sessions in schools across Kargil in coordination with the Chief Education Officer.
Adding cultural depth to the occasion, the Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (LAACL) presented a special cultural programme reflecting the region’s rich heritage.
The event concluded with a yoga pledge administered by Master of Ceremony, Ibrahim Shoqi, encouraging all attendees to incorporate yoga into their daily lives.
