Kargil celebrates National Voter’s Day with patriotic fervor

11th National Voters’ Day themed ‘‘Making Our Voters Empowered, Vigilant, Safe and Informed” was celebrated in Kargil with immense enthusiasm and zeal on January 25. 

The day was organized by the District Election Officer/ Deputy Commissioner, Kargil at Ice Hockey Rink Biamathang. 

Union Minister of State (IC) Tourism and Culture, Prahlad Singh Patel; CEC, Hill Council Kargil, Feroz Ahmad Khan; Executive Councillors, Commissioner Secretary Tourism, Ladakh, Rigzian Sampheal; Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Baseer ul Haq Choudhary; SP Kargil, Anayat Ali Choudhary; Director Tourism Ladakh, Kunzes Angmo; Principal IITTM Professor Alok Sharma; Consultant to Ministry of Tourism GoI, Colonel J S Dhillon, officers of Civil, Police Administration and Army, athletes and many other were present.

Voter’s pledge, resolving to renew faith in the democratic traditions of India and to contribute in the conduct of free, fair, and peaceful elections was readout.

The day was also celebrated in the Government offices and other locations in Sub Division Sankoo, Zanskar, and Shakar Chiktan besides Tehsil Headquarters and Niabats where the officers, employees, Sarpanchs, Panchs, and the local people participated in good numbers.

The speakers on the occasion highlighted the history, relevance, and objectives of celebrating the day and urged upon the people particularly the prospective voters to make judicious use of their right to franchise in electing capable and competent public representatives who can work for their welfare in real sense.

They also highlighted the importance of the day and urged upon the eligible voters who have attained 18 years of age and are about to get 18 to come forward and enroll their names so that they can exercise their right to vote.
