ITBP signs MoU with Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre for counselling & yoga training Officers and jawans to receive structured yoga sessions for stress management and mental wellness
In a significant step towards strengthening mental resilience and overall well-being of personnel deployed in extreme conditions, the North-West Frontier of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC), Leh, on April 25.
The initiative aims to introduce structured counselling programmes and yoga sessions focused on stress management and mental wellness for forces operating in high-altitude environments.
The MoU was signed by Bhikkhu Sanghasena on behalf of MIMC and Tashi Namgyal, Deputy Inspector General, ITBP North-West Frontier.
For over three decades, Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre has played a pioneering role in promoting yoga and meditation across Ladakh, contributing significantly to community well-being. The Centre is the only institute in the region accredited by the Yoga Certification Board under the Ministry of AYUSH, reflecting its commitment to maintaining high standards in yoga education and practice.
Further underscoring its excellence, MIMC is a recipient of the Prime Minister's Award for Outstanding Contribution for Promotion and Development of Yoga, recognising its remarkable contribution at the national level. Hundreds of armed forces personnel have already benefitted from yoga sessions conducted by the Centre.
Serving in the harsh and demanding terrain of Ladakh presents unique physical and psychological challenges to armed forces personnel. Recognising this, the initiative reflects a progressive approach to holistic fitness—integrating both mental and physical well-being to ensure personnel remain resilient in adverse conditions.
Under the MoU, officers and jawans of ITBP will undergo structured yoga training conducted by experienced instructors from MIMC. These sessions aim to enhance physical endurance while also promoting emotional balance, mental clarity, and psychological well-being—essential for those stationed in high-altitude, high-stress zones.
This collaboration marks a forward-looking initiative by both institutions, blending traditional wisdom with modern needs. By integrating yoga, meditation, and counselling into the daily lives of security personnel, the partnership sets a strong precedent for prioritising mental health and holistic wellness within India’s armed forces.
