iHub Divyasampark Spoke, University of Ladakh launches ten-day 3D Printing workshop at Kargil campus
The University of Ladakh, in collaboration with iHub Divyasampark, IIT Roorkee, inaugurated a ten-day workshop on 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing at the Department of Computer Science & IT, Kargil Campus on December 29. The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and professionals across Kargil, highlighting the region’s growing interest in emerging technologies.
The inaugural session was graced by Dr. Jaffar Ali Khan, Deputy Controller of Examinations, University of Ladakh, as Chief Guest, and Dr. Mehboob Ali, Incharge Administration, Kargil Campus, as Guest of Honour. Dr. Mustafa Ali, Director Physical Education, Kargil Campus, was also present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mehboob Ali stated that the iHub Divyasampark Spoke Hub has been established to promote innovation in Cyber-Physical Systems, with a focus on addressing local challenges in Ladakh. He urged students to make full use of the workshop as an entry point into the world of 3D printing and emphasised that acquiring Industry 4.0 skills is essential to remain competitive in the future job market. He credited the inspiring leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Saket Kushwaha, Vice-Chancellor, University of Ladakh, and Dr. Manish Anand, CEO, iHub Divyasampark, for the successful organisation of the programme.
In his address, Dr. Jaffar Ali Khan highlighted the growing role of technology in education, innovation, and skill development. He assured continued academic and technical support from the University of Ladakh to make students future-ready and appreciated the collaborative effort that enabled advanced technical training in Kargil. He also thanked iHub Divyasampark and the Vice-Chancellor for their proactive support in establishing and strengthening the Spoke Hub at the Kargil Campus.
Anwar Hussain, Assistant Professor, University of Ladakh, and Gulzar Hussain, Developer, NIC Ladakh, introduced participants to the fundamentals of digital design, 3D printing workflows, and real-world applications. Participants also engaged in an ice-breaker activity to understand the differences between two-dimensional and three-dimensional objects.
The workshop covers the complete 3D printing process, including digital model design, print file preparation, printer operation, and prototype development, along with training in cloud-based CAD using Onshape Studio. Participants who successfully complete the programme will receive certification from iHub Divyasampark and the University of Ladakh.
The initiative is being conducted in collaboration with the Design and Innovation Centre, IUST Kashmir; NIELIT Ladakh; NIC Ladakh; IIT Roorkee; and faculty of the University of Ladakh, ensuring a blend of conceptual understanding and hands-on learning.
To facilitate wider participation, the Kargil Campus is providing transportation from Kargil town to the campus for all registered participants. The workshop reflects the University of Ladakh’s continued commitment to promoting innovation-driven education and expanding access to advanced technologies across the region.
