KARGIL :
Failing to provide basic facilities at the Government Girls Higher Secondary school, Kargil, students staged a massive protest rally on May 25 in Kargil. More than thousands of girls participated and marched from girl higher secondary school to Lal-chowk.
Raising voice against the local administration, the student demands basic sanitation, drinking water, laboratory, library, first aid centre and replacement of principal from the school.

Student’s said that on one hand the slogan of “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” is being reverberated everywhere but there is not even a basic sanitation and other facilities available in Kargil.

They further added that despite being the only girl’s higher secondary school in the entire district the male principal is not even paying attention to the demand of the students.

The students are demanding to appoint a female principal replacing the existing one.

The protest continued for two hours which hampered the traffic in the town. Later, Advocate Amir, EC, LAHDC Kargil along with Kacho Turab Shah, ADC assured the students that they will fulfil all the demands by the next day.

The students warned the concern authorities that if their issues will not be redressed within a week then they will again take to streets and also invite other social organisations.

The educational system in Kargil is vanishing due to lack of political as well as administrative will to reform. Even the two women councillors who were being nominated for women empowerment and other women related issues are silent. But the fact of matter is that no single issue has been raised since the establishment of LAHDC in Kargil.
