An awareness session on Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination was conducted for the girl students of Govt. Higher Secondary School, Sakti, on June 6 by Dr. Jigmet Wangchuk, Medical Officer, AAM-PHC Sakti.

During the session, the students were educated about cervical cancer, its association with HPV infection, and the importance of HPV vaccination in preventing cervical cancer. Dr. Jigmet Wangchuk highlighted that cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers and emphasized that timely vaccination offers long-term protection against cervical cancer.

The students were also informed about the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India's HPV Vaccination Programme, under which free HPV vaccination is being provided to all eligible girls aged 14 years to protect them against cervical cancer. Information regarding the eligibility criteria, safety, effectiveness, and benefits of the vaccine was shared with the participants.

Interactive discussions were held to address myths and misconceptions regarding the vaccine, encouraging students to make informed health decisions. The students actively participated in the session and sought clarification on various aspects of HPV infection and vaccination.

The programme concluded with an appeal to the students to spread awareness among their families and communities regarding the importance of HPV vaccination and cervical cancer prevention.
