Garkone hosts vibrant Apricot Blossom Festival 2026 Festival showcases rich heritage and scenic beauty of Kargil
Apricot Blossom Festival 2026 was celebrated with great enthusiasm on April 9 in Garkone, a picturesque village in Kargil district, marking the arrival of spring and showcasing the region’s rich cultural and agricultural heritage.
Organised by the Tourism Department, Kargil, the festival highlighted the significance of apricot blossoms, which transform the landscape into a breathtaking panorama of pink and white hues during early spring.
The festival was graced by distinguished dignitaries as chief guests, including Rezin Gurmeth, Nominated Councillor, LAHDC Kargil; Col. Shobhit Pandey, Commanding Officer, 14 SIKH LI; and Dr. Tsewang Thinlas, Superintending Engineer, PWD Kargil. Their presence added prestige to the event and underscored the collective commitment of the civil administration, armed forces, and local governance towards promoting cultural tourism in the region.
The Apricot Blossom Festival of Kargil has emerged as an important tourism initiative, aimed at promoting sustainable tourism while celebrating local traditions, folk music, dance, handicrafts, and apricot-based products. The 2026 edition witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of tourists, including visitors from across the country as well as international travellers.
