An awareness programme on HPV-associated cervical cancer and its prevention was held on April 11 at the Community Health Centre (CHC) Sankoo by Dr. Iftikhar Ali Koree, Consultant Pediatrician, and Dr. Nasreen Fatima, Gynaecologist.

The doctors highlighted that cervical cancer remains one of the most common cancers affecting women, with a significant burden attributed to lack of awareness and delayed screening. They emphasised that timely screening and early preventive measures can save countless lives.

They strongly advocated HPV vaccination for adolescent girls, particularly at the age of 14, noting that it provides effective protection against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which is responsible for the majority of cervical cancer cases.

Reassuring the public, the doctors stated that the HPV vaccine is safe, well-tested, and widely used across the world.

They further informed that the vaccine, which is otherwise costly, is now being provided free of cost by the Government of India for all 14-year-old girls.

Under this initiative, CHC Sankoo has commenced administration of the HPV vaccine from April 10 onwards.

Dr. Iftikhar Ali Koree and Dr. Nasreen Fatima urged parents to take full advantage of the initiative and ensure timely vaccination of their daughters. They stressed that this simple step can play a crucial role in securing a healthy, cancer-free future for the next generation.

The doctors also encouraged the community to actively participate in the campaign and support the mission of preventing cervical cancer through awareness and vaccination.
