Foot & Mouth Disease outbreak reported in Ladakh Administration launches vaccination drive of livestock to control Foot and Mouth Disease

Joint Secretary, Livestock Health, Ministry of Fisheries Animal Husbandry and Dairying, GoI, Upamanyu Basu convened a meeting and discussed the outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in the region and its control measures with Secretary, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, UT Ladakh, Ravinder Kumar on July 10.

Deputy Commissioner, Leh; Deputy Commissioner, Kargil; Director, Animal and Sheep Husbandry and concerned officers of the department were present in the meeting.

Secretary, Ravinder Kumar informed about the mass vaccination drive to control the spread of FMD in the infected areas. He said that the vaccination will start from 11 July 2021 in both Leh and Kargil districts.

The Deputy Commissioners of both the districts were asked to take preventive measures and impose restrictions on the inter-district movement of livestock till complete vaccination is achieved.

Secretary, Ravinder Kumar directed the Animal and Sheep Husbandry Department to depute medical teams to every block for early completion of the vaccination. He also appeals to the farmers to cooperate with the department and to take preventive measures till the vaccination process to effectively control FMD is completed.
