Feroz Khan assesses developmental needs in Hunderman village Assures redressal of grievances on priority basis

Feroz Ahmed Khan, CEC, Kargil visited and assessed the developmental needs of the people of Hunderman village on June 12.
 
PRI members and delegation of people apprised Feroz Ahmed Khan about their issues and demands which mainly included the installation of the power transformer and hand pumps, construction of link road from Main Road to Masjid Hunderman Mal, installation of mobile tower in the area and other related issues.
 
Executive Engineer, PHE was directed to install a hand pump on a trial basis immediately. The locals were informed that to ensure the provision of water supply to the villagers a lift irrigation scheme has been proposed for Hunderman Mal at cost of ₹35 lakh under the Special Development Package.
 
Feroz Ahmed Khan said that while power transformer in the village is being installed within days, steps for installation of the mobile tower would be taken once the permission issues are sorted out.
 
Highlighting issues of Hunderman Broq, PRI members and the locals demanded establishment of a major lift irrigation project for the Hunderman area from the confluence point of Suru and Drass Rivers to mitigate the effects of the general drought-like situation.
 
They also demanded compensation on account of damage to standing crops and agricultural land patches as a result of water scarcity in the area, clearance of dry sludge brought by floods at Rgongat spring, widening of Kargil Hunderman Broq Road, provision of Animal Husbandry Bull Centre in the village, relocation of submersible pumps and other related issues.
Feroz Ahmed Khan assured the people that all requisite short term and long term measures would be taken by the Hill Council.
 
As a short term measure to address the problem of water scarcity in the village, concerned engineers were directed to ensure the shifting of water pumps to appropriate locations where the probability of underground water storage is maximum. He also asked them to explore possibilities for drilling of more bore-wells besides providing water pipes for temporary water restoration.
 
Executive Engineers of R&B II, PHE, and Mechanical Division were asked to survey to explore possibilities and check the feasibility for the establishment of a major lift irrigation project from the confluence point of Suru and Drass Rivers up to Hunderman Broq village.
 
Feroz Khan informed the locals that for construction of water conservation structures in the district ₹16 crores have been proposed under the SDP for 8 areas in the district including Hunderman Broq.
 
Compensation to villagers for damages to crops and grass patches will be provided based on the assessment report while compensation in case of barley crop will be provided by the Councillor Poyen constituency, CEC added.
 
Feroz Khan directed the engineers of PHE to prepare DPRs for the construction of community-based water reservoir tanks, water distribution lines, public posts, and installation of water-lifting machines and pumps so that a rational and equitable water distribution system is established in the long run.
 
Executive Engineer R&B II Kargil was asked to survey preparation of a DPR for the widening of Kargil Hunderman Broq Road with a particular focus to broaden the narrow stretches near the curvatures.
