Farmers in Drass encouraged to adopt solar irrigation under PM-KUSUM

The Kargil Renewable Energy Development Agency (KREDA), in collaboration with Oswal Pumps Ltd., organised a PM-KUSUM awareness programme at Dak Bungalow, Drass, on July 20 to promote solar-powered irrigation systems and encourage the adoption of renewable energy in agriculture.

The programme aimed to familiarise farmers with the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme, which promotes the use of solar energy for agricultural purposes to reduce irrigation costs, improve energy access, and support sustainable farming practices.

Gulam Ali Naqvi, Technical Officer to the Project Director, KREDA Kargil, briefed participants on the objectives, benefits, eligibility criteria, and subsidy provisions under the PM-KUSUM scheme. He encouraged farmers to take full advantage of the initiative to enhance agricultural productivity through clean and cost-effective energy solutions.

Kuldeep Singh, Manager (Rural Marketing and Public Engagement), Oswal Pumps Ltd., delivered a detailed presentation on solar pumping technology, explaining the features, installation process, operation, maintenance, and long-term benefits of solar-powered pumps. He also interacted with the participants and addressed their queries regarding the implementation of the scheme.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from farmers and other stakeholders from Drass. Participants appreciated the awareness initiative and expressed keen interest in adopting solar-powered irrigation systems under the PM-KUSUM scheme to improve farm productivity while reducing dependence on conventional energy sources.
