EJM College organises field visit to DIHAR vermicomposting unit

The Department of Botany, Eliezer Joldan Memorial College Leh, organised a field visit for the students of the second-semester skill enhancement course to the vermicomposting unit at the Defense Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR), Leh on April 19.

The field visit aimed to enhance student’s practical knowledge and skills in vermicomposting. DIHAR is renowned for its expertise in vermicomposting techniques, especially in high-altitude regions like Ladakh. Therefore, students were eager to observe and learn from the advanced practices and technologies employed at DIHAR.

The visit provided the students with valuable insights into vermicomposting and also inspired them to contribute positively to environmental sustainability initiatives in our region, as vermicomposting is also an alternative way of waste management.

Deskyong Namgyal, the Technical Officer, shared his experience with the students on how to adopt vermicomposting and its importance in the agricultural system.

Assistant Professor of Botany, Dr. Tsetan Dolker, also shared her expertise with the students regarding vermicomposting. She highlighted that vermicomposting is an eco-friendly and sustainable method for waste management that involves the conversion of organic waste into vermicompost.
