Executive Councillor, Hill Council, Leh, Tashi Namgyal Yakzee met Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, RK Mathur and  discussed development of Changthang region.

EC Tashi Namgyal requested LG Mathur for sanctioning a Special Sub-Division under the Roads and Building (R&B) Division at Durbuk and sanction a dedicated Executive Engineer for the smooth execution of all developmental works.

He briefed LG Mathur about the progress of preparatory work for the plantation drive to be held in Chushul on June 5 as a part of the initiative by Go Green, Go Organic organisation.

LG Mathur inquired about the women self-help groups (SHGs) from Changthang who make Rebo (yak wool tents used by nomads) and stressed on the importance of economic revival for the people of Changthang in the long run. He also stated that National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) has been recently extended to cover the entire Changthang area and would provide funds for the development of these SHGs.

He also raised the issue of connecting Changthang  area and Durbuk sub-division with the Northern Power Grid.
