DM, Leh, reviews Bio-Medical Waste Management in Leh district

District Magistrate, Leh, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse convened a meeting regarding Bio-Medical Waste Management, a crucial part of the District Environmental Plan on July 17.

District Magistrate, Leh emphasized the need for proper treatment of bio-medical waste as per rules and regular training of health officials to sensitize and capacity-building on waste management as mandated in Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules 2016.

He directed the concerned officials to examine the components of the Common Biomedical Waste Treatment Facility (CBWTF) with the specifications as per the rules. And also asked them to submit a detailed project report (DPR) at the earliest and asked ACR to identify land for the project immediately.

Earlier, the Medical Superintendent and District Health Officer briefed the chair about the existing mechanism of Bio-medical waste generation and management at the SNM Hospital Leh and in blocks of rural areas. They highlighted the issues faced by hospital management regarding the scientific management of biomedical waste as per rules governing the subject.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Leh; Medical Superintendent, SNM Hospital, Leh; DHO Leh, Leh; Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Leh; District Sheep Husbandry Officer and Incharge Covid Command Centre, Leh attended the meeting.
