Div com Ladakh meets airlines operators to regulate winter cargo rates

Divisional Commissioner, Ladakh, Saugat Biswas who is also the Secretary Civil Aviation Dept had a meeting with all the airlines operating from Ladakh and the officers of the Airport Authorities of India and KBR Airport Leh to discuss the reasons for differential cargo rates in winter.

It had been brought to the notice of the Div Com that there is an increase of about Rs 40/kg for flying in cargo from New Delhi to Leh in the winter months when compared to the rates in the summers. The representatives from the merchant association were also present during the meeting.

In the meeting, the functioning of KBR airport was also discussed in detail. The Director of the Airport was instructed to ensure the timely attendance of the airport staff, and cleanliness at the airport with special attention to public conveniences and drinking water facilities. The airport authorities should test heating facilities etc, for the winters well in advance, he instructed.

There will be coordination meetings between the merchant associations and the airlines as well as the cargo agents again before the closure of roads to control the cargo prices, said Biswas.
