District Police, Leh, observes National Police Commemoration Day

District Police, Leh paid rich tribute to the martyred police personnel who lost their lives for the nation on National Police Commemoration day on October 21 at District Police Line, Choglamsar.

Sargun Shukla, newly appointed SSP Leh and the outgoing SSP, Udhay Bhaskar Billa read out the name of the martyrs of all the state police forces along with paramilitary force who sacrificed their precious lives for the nation while performing their duties.

Remembering the martyrs and expressing grief and sorrow for the loss, Udhay Bhaskar Billa said, “Police played an immense role in safeguarding a society and nation and the day is equally important for all of us to commemorate the martyred police personnel who gave their life for the well being of us. We express our condolences to the aggrieved family members.”

Wreath laying ceremony was also held during the occasion in which SSP, Leh, outgoing SSP, Police officers, family members and relatives of martyrs participated.
 
Stanzin Losal, Additional SP, Sonam Deachen, SP CID, Rigzin Angmo, Commandant, CRPF Dy. SP, SHOs and other police officers, and relatives of martyrs were also present.

On October 21, 1959, ten police personnel’s got martyred in an attack by the Chinese troops on Indo-China border in Ladakh region. 

On November 28, 1959, the Chinese troops handed over the mortal remains of these martyred policemen to India. Since then, October 21 is observed as the National Police Day every year to commemorate their sacrifice to the nation.
