District Police Leh felicitate survivors of 1959 Hot spring attack

Memories of the Hot spring ordeal of 1959 refreshed again when the survivors, CRPF veteran, Sonam Dorjay, Sonam Wangyal, Kunzang Dechan and daughter of Abdul Majid narrated the story and the hardship they faced on November 5.
 
The District Police Leh felicitated and honoured all the survivors.
 
Tracing back to 1959, Sargun Shukla, SSP, Leh said that the sacrifice of the brave hearts while guarding the national frontiers can never be forgotten. Also, the survivors are an example of courage and commitment to everyone. 
 
A short film on the Hot Spring showing the story of what happened on October 21, 1959, was screened. 
 
Until the autumn of 1959, Police personnel were responsible for manning the 2,500-mile long border of India with Tibet. On October 21, 1959, at Hot spring in Ladakh, the Chinese attacked the patrol party. The heavily armed Chinese troop outnumbered the patrolling party and killed 10 personnel.
 
Their sacrifices for the nation are observed as Police Commemoration Day on Every October 21.
