District library organises campaign to imbibe reading and writing habits among students

District Library launches a campaign on the importance of imbibing reading & writing skills for the students in commemoration with the birth centenary of H.E Kushok Bakula Rinpoche on May 25 at Boys Hr. Secondary School Leh. Abdul Ghani Sheikh, the author was the chief guest on the occasion.

He said, “We should learn each language according to our own interest and not just to pass the examination but to develop the language in speaking and writing. Reading and writing are important.  It is sad to see that reading habit is very poor among our people. Students should inculcate the habit of reading and writing in daily life to improve their vocabulary.”

Lobsang Tsewang, District Librarian said, “Reading and writing habit is very poor among the Ladakhis. Most of the Ladakhi are not aware of the district library in Leh. Basically, It is for the public and it has a collection of 35,000 books in the library and we should use it.”

“One can also use the library for many purposes like research and self-study etc. We also provide coaching facilities to the students to prepare for JEE Entrance and NEET exams specially prepared by the top 100 professionals through Tablet, USB and textbook free of cost, ” he added.

Prof. Tashi Dawa said that there are numbers of books about Ladakh in the book shops but only a few are of Ladakhi writer. “More local writers should come up with different books as we are living and experiencing it.”

Dr. Thupstan Tsultim also spoke on the occasion stressing upon the importance of reading and writing not only in one language but in different languages.
