District Hospital Kargil to be named after Qamar Ali Akhoon L-G says the move will keep his legacy alive for future generations

In a significant decision aimed at honouring the legacy of a distinguished public figure, Lieutenant Governor of UT Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, has directed that the District Hospital in Kargil be named after late Qamar Ali Akhoon.

The decision has been taken by the UT Administration of Ladakh in recognition of Akhoon’s exemplary contributions to public service and politics. The proposal was approved following due examination of records and recommendations, including inputs from the General Administration Department.

Late Qamar Ali Akhoon was widely respected for his unwavering commitment to public welfare, integrity in public life, and selfless service. He worked tirelessly for the upliftment of society, particularly focusing on the welfare of the poor and marginalised sections. His dedication and humility earned him admiration across communities.

As noted in the official citation, Akhoon devoted his entire life to serving the people and remained unmarried, dedicating himself wholly to public causes. Known for his integrity and clean public life, he remained free from controversy and was regarded as a revered figure in the region.

His contributions to social welfare, education, and public service have had a lasting impact on the development of Kargil and Ladakh.

“By naming a key public institution after late Qamar Ali Akhoon, the Administration aims to ensure that his vision of service to humanity continues to guide and inspire the people of Ladakh for years to come. In view of his outstanding service and enduring legacy, this has been considered a befitting tribute,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

The UT Administration stated that the decision reflects its commitment to recognising individuals who have made significant contributions to the region and to preserving their legacy for future generations.
