Discussion held on development of Seabuckthorn, Pashmina and Apricot

A meeting regarding comprehensive development of Seabuckthorn, Apricot and Pashmina was convened on October 2.
 
The meeting was held between CEC/Chairman Hill Council, Leh Dr.Sonam Dawa Lonpo and SK Patnayak Secretary Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department GoI.

After the discussions following important decisions were taken in the meeting for development of Apricot, Seabuckthorn and Pashmina.

The aim is to ensure sustainable development of agriculture sector and increasing the income to farmers and growers.
 
Launching of brand “Leh Organic –promoted by LAHDC, Leh” for processing, grading, and packing of products for national wide sale.

JK Agro to sign MOU(memorandum of understanding) with LAHDC, Leh for their intervention in development and processing of Seabuckthorn, Apricot and high-value vegetables like Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Chinese Cabbage etc.

JK Agro to submit a DPR(Department of Pesticide Regulation)for the establishment of processing unit at Leh to DC/CEOLAHDC, Leh within 10 days.
 
LAHDC, Leh to submit a comprehensive DPRas per the guidelines of MIDH(Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture) to Govt. of India through J&K govt. for development of Seabuckthorn and Apricot in Leh District.

For the development of Pashmina, the Secretary Agriculture and Farmers welfare GoI were kind enough to assure support and funding for fodder development and disease control through RKVY. (Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana).
 
A deputation of experts from National Seed Corporation for exploring seed production.

Principal Secretary Agriculture Production J&K govt. was kind enough to announce Sea buckthorn village for Leh District.

The Secretary Agriculture and Farmer Welfare GoI said that the Prime Minister is very much concern about the development of Ladakh and assured all support from GoI for sustainable development of Agriculture and allied productions in Leh District so that income of farmers can be doubled. 

At the end, Dr Dawa , Leh expressed his gratitude for their much-needed intervention and requested for swift processing of the DPRs.

The meeting was also attended by Sandeep Nayak Principal Secretary Agriculture Production Department J&K Government, DC/CEOLAHDC, Leh Director Agriculture Kashmir, Managing Director JK Agro J&K and HoDs of concern Departments.
