Debate competition on impact of social media held in Kargil

Debate competition on the topic, ‘Impact of social media’ was organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kargil on February 26 at Conference Hall, Baroo, Kargil.

More than 150 participants from all region of the district participated in the programme. A total of 20 youths participated in the debate competition. 

The participants belonged from different institutes like Digital computer Institute, Sipa Computer Institute, Aptech Computers, Degree College Kargil and organizations affiliated to Nehru Yuva Kendra like Humas upliftment organization Drass, Al-Hilal society Pashkum, KASCO, OSCAR, SWES and youths volunteers affiliated to NYK Kargil.

Chief Guest of the occasion, Arun Gupta, Additional Superintendent of Police said that the increased number of cybercrimes in the recent year is really a sensitive issue in the state.

He further stated that the youth are most vulnerable to the negative impact of social media.

While briefing the agenda of the programme, Syed Sajjad, District Youth Coordinator NYK Kargil said that the programme aims to create awareness among the youth of Kargil about the exposure to social networking sites and finding the results as to how adversely and positively the youths are affected by the use of such mediums. 

Expert speakers Adv. Zahid Hussain and Amir Aman Ullah highlighted the usage of social media and the limitations of freedom of expression. While Imteeyaz Kacho highlighted the dark impacts of the cyber world and advised new generation to use it for the benefit of an individual and the society at large.

The winners in the competition were awarded a cash prize of ₹ 5000, ₹ 3000 and ₹ 1500 respectively.
