Deputy Commissioner Nubra, Mukul Beniwal, chaired a meeting with officials of the Power Development Department (PDD) and the Ladakh Renewable Energy Development Agency (LREDA) on June 9 to review power supply challenges arising during the peak tourist season in the district.

The meeting focused on issues such as voltage fluctuations, occasional power tripping and the increased demand for electricity across various parts of Nubra due to the seasonal influx of tourists.

During the review, the Deputy Commissioner assessed the impact of the surge in electricity consumption and discussed measures to ensure a stable and reliable power supply throughout the tourist season. He emphasized the need to maintain uninterrupted electricity services, particularly at healthcare facilities and other essential public institutions where continuous power supply is critical for effective service delivery.

Highlighting the importance of proactive planning, Beniwal directed the concerned departments to undertake a detailed load study and evaluate the existing power distribution network to identify areas requiring augmentation and infrastructure strengthening.

He further instructed officials to conduct load checking of households, commercial establishments and other consumers exceeding their sanctioned load in order to ensure effective load management and reduce stress on the power infrastructure during periods of peak demand.

The meeting was attended by SDM Nubra Jigmet Rapten, JKAS; former Deputy Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) Tsering Angchuk; Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE), PDD; representatives of PDD and LREDA; and Numberdars of Diskit and Hunder.
