DC, Leh, launches Beti Bachao, Beti Padao Week in Leh Objective of the programme is to improve child sex ratio and enable them to get education

A weeklong programme on ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ was held at DC office conference hall on January 19. The programme was lined in the celebration of National Girl Child Day on January 24. 

Sachin Kumar Vaishya, DC Leh said that the objective of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ program is to improve the child sex ratio and ensuring education for the girl child. 

He informed that the child sex ratio in Leh district from April 2019 to Dec 2019 has seen a notable improvement of 1010:1000 (F:M) as compared to previous year’s figure of 920:1000. He said that there isn’t a prevalence of any serious issues related to female foeticide or girl child education.The sex ratio of girls is 10% higher than boys in Leh district.
 
Sachin Kumar stressed on the need to take the benefit of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme in constructive things and benefit the girl child/adolescent girls through awareness programmes on various social evils. He urged the participants to motivate the girls sharing success stories to excel in their interested field of study and help them choose the correct path in life. 

 A signature pledge to save and educate girl child was also administered during the day. 
 
Kunzes Angmo, Programme Officer, ICDS Leh spoke about the scheduled calendar prepared for the week-long celebration of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme in Leh district. She mentioned about the celebration of National Girl Child Day to be held on January 24 at all block-level and a detailed briefing about the activities and progress of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao schemes implemented in 2018 in Leh district.Under this scheme top, 10 girl students are being given a scholarship of ₹ 5000 and ₹ 7000 in 10th and 12th board examinations respectively. In all the government residential hostels girls are provided with basic needful items and sanitary kit worth ₹1 lakh each year and around 100 girl students are taken on an intra-district exposure tour. These benefits are provided at each block level under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme to create awareness, sensitise people and engage community across the district to promote the value of girl child.

BDO Leh, CDPO Leh, AD Planning Education, District Education and Planning Officer, Principal High Secondary School, Khaltsi, ICDS staff, Anganwadi workers and students were present.

Meanwhile, the programme was also launched with a signature/pledge ceremony at all the block level under the chairmanship of respective Sub Divisional Magistrates. Block Task Force meeting was also convened as per the scheduled calendar for the week-long celebration.
