DC Drass inaugurates retrofitted classrooms of middle school Throngos
Deputy Commissioner Drass Imteeaz Kacho on August 18 inaugurated the insulation-retrofitted classrooms of Government Middle School (GMS) Throngos, Drass.
The initiative was facilitated by rZamba, with material, technical support and guidance from Eco Structure Eco Pvt. Ltd., Twerlinger Centre for Shelter and Villigro Innovation. The work is aimed at improving thermal comfort inside the school and creating a more conducive learning environment for children during the extreme winters of Drass.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and the other guests appreciated the quality and relevance of the insulation work undertaken at the school. They acknowledged the importance of such interventions in strengthening school infrastructure for the harsh climatic conditions of Ladakh and expressed their support for exploring similar solutions in other schools and locations across Ladakh.
The Deputy Commissioner thanked the organizations involved in the noble cause for introducing the landmark technology and appreciated the role of rZamba for its innovative interventions not only in Drass but the entire Union Territory of Ladakh. The ceremony also featured cultural performances by the students of GMS Throngos.
Members of the VEC expressed their gratitude to all the organisations and individuals involved in making the initiative possible, with particular appreciation for rZamba which has been working closely with the school and the wider community on education and school development initiatives.
The completion of the insulation work in GMS Throngos marks another step towards creating safe, comfortable and climate-responsive learning spaces for children in the high-altitude and extremely cold regions of Ladakh. The initiative demonstrates the value of partnerships between communities, schools, civil society organizations and technical experts in developing sustainable solutions for local needs.
The insulation work was closely monitored throughout by the VEC, thus ensuring community participation, oversight and accountability during the implementation. The initiative reflects a collaborative approach where technical expertise and material support are complemented by active community ownership.
The inauguration event was attended by Superintendent of Police Ishtyaq Kacho; Commanding Officer 4th Assam Colonel Krishnan representing the Army, LAHDC Councillors of Bhimbet and Ranbirpora Abdul Wahid and Abdul Samad, Principal, GDC- Drass, Nasir Shabani, Zonal Education Officer Mohammad Ibrahim, former LAHDC Councillor, Syed Mohammad Shah, Director, rZamba Foundation Saldon Shifa and her colleagues, members of the Village Education Committee (VEC) among community representatives and guests from Delhi and Bangalore.
