Community Radio Drass hosts symposium on changing socio-economic landscape

A symposium titled “From Isolation to Opportunity: The Transformation of Kargil and Drass” was organised at the Community Radio Station, Drass on March 8, bringing together voices from different fields to discuss the region’s evolving socio-economic landscape.

Five eminent speakers from diverse domains shared their perspectives on the progress witnessed in Drass and Kargil over the years. The discussions covered themes such as the preservation of local culture and language, improving healthcare awareness, expanding educational opportunities, youth aspirations, and the growing participation of women in sports and community life.

The speakers included Abdul Wahid, Councillor Bhimbat; Dr. Haseena of GDC Drass; Dr. Ashan Ali, Medical Officer at SDH Drass; Md. Shafi Sagar, Shina scholar; and Maqusama Akhter, an ice hockey player.

Speakers highlighted how the region, once considered remote and isolated, is gradually emerging as a place of opportunity, driven by education, community participation, and new avenues for youth and women.

The programme was hosted by Station Manager Mohammad Saleem and RJ Shabnam.

The symposium provided an engaging platform for dialogue and reflection on the transformation of Drass and the promising opportunities shaping its future.
