CM distributes 50% subsidised scooties to 20 college girls

With an aim to empower the girl students, Mehbooba Mufti, CM handed over 50% subsidized Scooty to a total of 20 girls on October 7 at Eliezer Joldan Memorial College, Leh. 

Mehbooba Mufti, Chief Minister said that this scheme will not only help girls in commuting but will also bring courage, self-confidence and a feeling of self-dependence.  She instructed them to drive safe and use the helmet for their safety means. 

Responding to the demands which were put forth by the college administration, she assured for setting up of girl’s hostel and asked Dr. Sonam Dawa, CEC, Leh, to identify a land near College and send the project report. She also assured to provide College bus for the students and look forward to the indoor stadium. 

She further said, “In the coming summer, we will have student exchange programme which will help to know about each other and bridge the gap between the three regions of J&K”.

She informed that she has already asked Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University to take steps towards solving the problems related to degree and examination.

Dr. Dawa and Tashi Dawa, Principal, EJM College put forth some demand and addressed the problem faced. They requested CM for solving the issue related to examination and degree certificates of the students and providing hostel, bus and Indoor stadium in College.

Chering Dorje, Minister for Cooperative and Ladakh Affairs J&K thanked CM for providing facilities for the girls. Addressing the issue of the classroom, he requested for bigger classroom wherein more than 100 students can be accommodated. 

Tashi Dolker, Beneficiary student said, “We face lots of problem in commuting and many a times we reach college late.  Now with the help of scooty, we will be able to make good use of our time.”

Avny Lavasa, Deputy Commissioner presented vote of thanks and said that such scheme is empowering women in a real sense.
