Changthang demands separate district status

A delegation led by EC, Rural Development Department, Hill Council, Leh, Tashi Namgyal Yakzee discussed the demand of district status for Changthang region with Advisor to Lt. Governor, UT Ladakh, Umang Narula; Commissioner Secretary, Rigzin Samphel; Divisional Commissioner, Saugat Biswas and DC Leh, Sachin Kumar Vaishya on January 20. 

The delegation includes, Councillor Nyoma, Ishey Spalzang; Councillor Kungyam, Thinles Nurboo; Councillor Chushul, Konchok Stanzin; Councillor Korzok, Karma Namdak; BDC Chairperson (Nyoma and Durbuk); LBA presidents (Nyoma and Durbuk); student organisations (Ladakh Drayangs and SAVE) and political party representatives (BJP and Congress) of Changthang region.

EC Tashi apprised concerned higher authorities regarding the genuine demand of the people of Changthang to grant separate district status to the region. 

The delegation highlighted the importance of the region strategically, economically and in various other sectors. They also submitted a drafted proposal justifying their demand to grant separate district status to the region. 

The Advisor and all the higher authorities assured to look into the genuine demands and issues of Changthang region.
