CEC tours Nubra valley, Siachen belt villages

To ascertain people’s grievances besides assessing the developmental progress in Siachen belt, Dr. Sonam Dawa visited Nubra valley for two days on January 6 and 7.

To ensure quality education along with the all-round development of the children of Siachen belt, Dr. Sonam Dawa, CEC assured to establish a Centralized residential hostel at Panamik in the coming days. Also, development of a command area either at Sasoma or at another suitable area was also promised for the welfare of people living in upper Siachen belt. He further assured to improve drinking water system.

Referring to National Rural Livelihood Mission which is meant for skill development of unemployed women, CEC said, “Chushot and Panamik are two villages which are included under the ambit of this program. A training program for skill development of the womenfolk of Panamik would be given soon by engaging local experts that would help to improve their skill and income.”

Dr. Sonam Dawa also inspected hospital at Panamik and made detail enquiry about the availability of medicines and other facilities. Seeing the poor functioning of the central heating system and water supply at the hospital, CEC on spot ordered engineers to rectify the problems. 

Welcoming the CEC and the team of ECs, Tsering Sandup, EC Tourism also the Councilor Panamik extended gratitude for the blacktopping of 20 km road in his constituency during the last 2 years, enhancing the wages of porters working in the area and opening of Yarma Gonbo for tourists.

Execution of permanent protection bundh along Siachen River was a common demand in the wake of continuing soil erosion on both sides of the river. Dr. Sonam Dawa said that a mega project in this regard has already been submitted to Govt. for funding. And, flood-prone villages like Yulkham and Trisha problem to be solved at Council level.
