CEC Tashi Gyalson assures early development of historic Wanla Lonpo site in Taru

Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, conducted an on-site inspection of the historically significant Wanla Lonpo site (Star Kos Tsay) in Taru village on May 14.
He was accompanied by the Superintendent Engineer, PWD; Executive Engineer and Junior Engineer, R&B; the Goba; former Sarpanch; and local villagers.
During the visit, CEC Gyalson carried out a detailed assessment of the site and its surrounding areas earmarked for development. He emphasized the site's historical and cultural value, stating that it is the Hill Council's responsibility to ensure its preservation and protection. The site is already part of the Council's development agenda, with work scheduled to commence soon. The plan aims to transform the site into a community-centric space while preserving its cultural identity.
As part of the proposed development, the project will include the construction of a traditional entrance gate featuring Rik Sum Gombo stupas, a cafeteria, an open-air theatre, tile compound work, and landscaping to enhance the site's aesthetic appeal and accessibility.
CEC Gyalson acknowledged the villagers' longstanding demand to protect the site, recognizing its importance as the historic dining place of the Wanla Lonpo. He assured them that work will begin at the earliest and that all efforts will be made to preserve the site's cultural significance while also developing it for the benefit of the local community.
The villagers expressed heartfelt gratitude to the CEC and LAHDC Leh for addressing their demands and extending continued support for the development and preservation of Taru village.
