CEC, Kargil, reviews progress & achievements of agriculture, allied departments Expresses satisfaction over works, directs for proper implementation of welfare scheme

CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan reviewed the progress and achievements of agriculture and allied departments during a meeting at Council Secretariat on June 30, 2022. 

Feroz Khan said that the meeting aims to assess the status of expenditure, works done during the previous financial year, and undergoing works so that proper plans are made to draft works under the subsidy component and allied sectors without duplicity.

Executive Councillors, LAHDC, Kargil, Senior Scientists, KVK SKUAST and MAR&ES SKUAST, Kargil; Chief Agriculture Officer, Chief Horticulture Officer, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Deputy Director Command Area Development, Deputy Registrar Cooperatives, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Assistant Soil Conservation Officer and other concerned officers were present during the meeting.

CEC Khan asserted that all works should be carried out in a smooth manner and schemes, having a direct beneficiary share, must be prioritized and simultaneously maximum achievements under physical and financial expenditure are recorded. He took a detailed assessment of works completed during the last financial year and current year of all allied departments of the agriculture sector under State Sector, SDP, and District Capex.

Regarding works under Agriculture Department, CEC was informed that polycarbonate sheets, drip irrigation in drought-hit Sodh area were distributed, organic clusters and involvement of SHGs under the schemes were developed, machinery equipment, tubular structures, godowns, were purchased and implementation of Central Sponsored Schemes such as ATMA, MIDH under which mushroom units were established.

He was also appraised about the establishment of Ladakh Green House at Sankoo, Taisuru, Zanskar, Sodh, and Chiktan.

various developmental works and other components achieved in various sectors under Sheep Husbandry Department were informed. Also, it was informed that various works like the establishment of cattle farms, store rooms and purchase of mechanical equipment such as ambulances and works on Nitrogen Plants are undergoing.

Under District Capex works, Veterinary Hospital is undergoing and further works on Veterinary Hospital at Chiktan, Zanskar, and Shargole are undergoing as well. It was informed that at Bodh Kharbu, they are building a skill development centre 

Related to Sheep Husbandry Department, the CEC was informed about various works achieved in the previous financial year such as the construction of livestock sheds, sheep centres at five centres within the district, pre-fabricated structures at Stakche, Yuljuk, and upgradation of staff quarters.

Khan asserted that barren land at Karakul Sheep Farm must be utilized appropriately. The concerned assured for the necessary redressal and appraised about various works such as machinery purchase, livestock shed at Rangdum and vaccination.

While taking the assessment of works under Cooperatives, CEC was informed that various vital works were achieved such as Super Bazaar at Sankoo, Fruit Mandi at Baroo, Govt. Consumer Store, Fertilizer Godown, Super Bazaar, Godown at Padum, upgradation of DRC office and various other works were completed while some are in progress.

Under the Horticulture Department, it was informed that works like the development of orchards, drip irrigation, distribution of pack house, vermicompost, and vermin base were distributed while works on codling moth were also done.

CEC also asked about the distribution and supply of apricots in national and international markets, to which the concerned informed that a buyer-seller meet was recently held at Leh in which various international buyers had come and interacted with buyers from Kargil.

He stressed focusing on packaging and processing plants so that better productivity and distribution of apricots are achieved.

Senior Scientist Dr. Mehdi Akhone gave various scientific suggestions and interventions in terms of improving quality agriculture works across the district. They talked at length about various interventions under organic farming, floriculture, horticulture, caning and packaging of apricot, mulberry, and honey.

Feroz Khan expressed satisfaction over the works and directed for proper implementation of welfare schemes and maximum expenditure under all sectors.
