CEC, Kargil, reviews concept report of 24/7 water supply scheme

Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Feroz Ahmad Khan reviewed the concept report of 24/7 water supply scheme in urban areas of Kargil and the additional area comprising the Kurbathang plateau on December 16.

Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Santosh Sukhadeve, Councilor Kargil Town, Councilor Poyen, Councilor Minjee/Baroo, Superintending Engineer, PHE, I&FC Kargil, Vice President, MC Kargil, Executive Engineer, PHE Kargil, Executive Officer, MC Kargil, and Consultant attended the meeting.

CEC reviewed the concept report of 24/7 water supply for Kargil Town from two main water sources comprising Suru and Drass Rivers.

The consultant presented the presentation that included three major components: project population for the years 2025, 2040, and 2055, three alternatives conceptualized for providing 24/7 water supply and capital cost as well as O&M.

The consultant explained the three alternatives (of the second component) which include the development of an additional source in Drass River to cover the entire project area except zone 4 which would be covered by existing WTP, two additional sources one in Drass River, and another in Suru River covering the zones 1, 2, 3 and 5, 6, 7, 8 respectively and the third alternative consisted further improvement of the second alternative.

During the meeting, the alternatives presented by the consultant were discussed in detail.

 Feroz Ahmed Khan directed the consultant and the concerned department to modify the third alternative considering the zones 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 are to be covered by the source in Drass River while zone 4, 7, and 8 are to be covered by source in Suru River.

He further directed the consultant to proceed with the preparation of DPR as per the third alternative at the earliest so that the project execution work could be started early during 2023-24.
