CEC, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon met Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, on May 23 to discuss developmental priorities and welfare initiatives for the Kargil region.

The meeting served as an important platform to deliberate on issues related to minority welfare schemes, tourism promotion and equitable developmental support for Kargil and its newly created districts.

During the interaction, Dr. Akhoon held detailed discussions with the Union Minister regarding the implementation of central minority welfare schemes and the benefits being extended to the people of Kargil region, including the newly formed districts.

He emphasised the need for effective outreach and timely implementation of these schemes across all districts to ensure that minority communities receive their rightful entitlements under various Government of India programmes.

The CEC also highlighted the immense tourism potential of the Kargil region and urged the Union Minister to ensure that the benefits of central schemes and investments are extended uniformly to the newly established districts as well. He stressed the need for the development of tourism infrastructure, improved connectivity and wider promotional efforts across the region.

Dr. Akhoon stated that the Kargil region, with its rich cultural heritage, scenic landscapes and strategic location, has the potential to emerge as one of the leading tourist destinations in the Union Territory of Ladakh, thereby generating employment and economic opportunities for the local population.

Both dignitaries also discussed matters related to the overall development and welfare of the Kargil region. The CEC apprised the Union Minister of the evolving administrative landscape following the creation of new districts and sought enhanced policy support and constructive intervention from the

Ministry to ensure balanced and timely development across the region.

The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, during which Dr. Akhoon expressed confidence that the support and guidance of the Union Minister would help accelerate developmental initiatives and ensure effective implementation of central government schemes across Kargil region.
