Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, on August 7 called on Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, in New Delhi and held a detailed meeting on key issues concerning Kargil and the newly created districts of Ladakh.

During the meeting, the CEC raised the issue of the early operationalisation of Kargil Airport for civil aviation, highlighting its importance for improving connectivity, boosting tourism and accelerating the overall development of the region. He sought the Union Minister’s intervention to facilitate the early commencement of civil flight operations from the airport.

Dr Akhoon also raised the demand for the creation of a new district that was left out during the recent creation of new districts in Ladakh. He requested that the matter be taken up at the appropriate level for early and favourable consideration.

The CEC also discussed the developmental requirements of Kargil and the newly created districts, seeking greater central support for strengthening infrastructure, healthcare and education facilities.

Dr Jitendra Singh assured the CEC of his support and stated that the issues raised during the meeting would be taken up on priority.

Dr Akhoon expressed gratitude to the Union Minister for sparing time for the meeting and for his assurance of support on the issues concerning Kargil and the newly created districts.
