CEC Kargil holds press conference regarding issues of casual laborers

Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon called a press conference to address concerns of casual laborers and various other issues in the Kargil district on March 2.

The CEC highlighted the developments, including a recent meeting chaired with the Lieutenant Governor on February 23 regarding casual labourers.

The CEC emphasized that recommendations, including education facilities, group insurance, phased annual increments and adherence to the Minimum Wages Act of 1948, are ready for submission to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Expressing unwavering solidarity with casual laborers, the CEC reiterated the Council’s commitment to support them both now and in the future.

The CEC also recalled achievements such as the reduction of fares for Kargil House and electric buses by 30 percent. Further, the CEC commended the Indian Air Force for its invaluable support in the operation of the AN 32 Courier Service.

Regarding recruitment procedures, the CEC assured transparency and fairness, emphasizing the LAHDC’s commitment to equitable opportunities through various employment avenues, including outsourcing, contractual, and permanent positions.

In terms of emergency response capabilities, the CEC informed about the tendering of fire and emergency services on the GeM portal by the concerned department.

Later, addressing concerns about the reopening of the Zojilla axis, the CEC assured expedited efforts once weather conditions improve, ensuring timely access to essential commodities, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

CEC Dr Jaffer reiterated the commitment to provide all possible assistance to casual laborers, ensuring the realization of their rights and welfare.
