CEC Gyalson visits DIHAR, assesses potentialities of agriculture and its allied sector

To make DIHAR and other research agencies stationed in Leh more farmer-friendly and works towards sustainable development of Ladakh, Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson visited the Defence Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR) on February 4. 
 
Executive Councillor for Horticulture, Ghulam Mehdi; Executive Councillor for Agriculture, Stanzin Chosphel and Councillor Thiksey, Stanzin Chosphel; Director DIHAR, OP Chaurasia; Chief Agriculture Officer, Tsering Dorjey; Chief Horticulture Officer, Tsewang Punchok; Scientist DIHAR, Dr. Tsering Stobdan; Scientist DIHAR, Dr. Dorjey Angchuk and officials of DIHAR Leh were present. 
 
Dr. Tsering Stobdan gave a detailed presentation on the different areas of work at DIHAR. He highlighted various modern age technologies in the farming sector which DIHAR has been researching and implementing till now. He also highlighted the potentials of agriculture and its allied sectors in transforming the economy of Ladakh. 
 
CEC Gyalson appreciated DIHAR’s contribution towards defence as well as the civil society in Ladakh. He stated that Ladakh needs to become self-reliant where the farming sector should get the utmost attention and encouragement which will help them generate an alternative source of income.
 
Addressing the gathering, EC Mehdi stated that DIHAR has been doing a tremendous job in transforming the farming sector of Ladakh. He requested Director DIHAR and his team to work collectively in developing and adopting modern technologies for the large-scale production of Apricot and Buckwheat in Ladakh. 
 
EC Chosphel also highlighted the improvisation of government schemes with different strategies and requirements of dialogues between the Agriculture Department and DIHAR for training farmers in the rural sector. He urged scientists to work collaboratively in conducting mass awareness campaigns among the people of Ladakh regarding new-age technologies and their adoption by the local farmers. 
 
Assuring utmost support to the LAHDC Leh for guiding Leh district towards sustainable development, Director DIHAR stated that the institute is trying its best to share the knowledge of new technologies and their expertise with the farmers of Ladakh. He assured to extend further support to make the technologies accessible to every farmer of Ladakh.  
 
CEC Gyalson also visited SKUAST campus yesterday. He urged the scientists to work in close coordination with DIHAR and other research agencies to work for the benefit of local farmers by implementing their research, technology, and scientific knowledge. He stressed that research of SKUAST, DIHAR, and other institutes should go in tandem with the vision of LAHDC, Leh.
