CEC Dr Jaffer chairs annual meeting of TDA, ZDA

Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon chaired the annual meeting of the Tourism Development Authority (TDA) and Zanskar Development
Authority (ZDA) at the conference hall, Council Secretariat on March 6.

During the meeting, detailed discussion took place regarding the physical and financial progress achieved during the financial year 2023- 2024.

The concerned officers informed that the Tourist Felicitation Center Kargil construction has reached 95% completion, progress on the development of Hundurman viewpoint has reached 95%, construction of the Director-cum-Tourism Residential Office has advanced to around 40%, upgradation of Tourism Department building near the airport road stands at 90% completion, riverfront development from Bulbul Bagh to Sherbagh in the first phase has reached 80%, and substantial progress, at 90%, has been attained in the development of lawn at TFC.

The concerned officers further informed that DPR has been submitted for restoration, adaptive reuse, and rescue site development of Chiktan Khar. Additionally, the
conservation and preservation of old bazar Kargil are currently undergoing the tendering process.

Furthermore, the DPR has been submitted for the preservation and conservation of amenities near Akhon Shareef Mausoleum, Karchey Khar.

The meeting also addressed new projects slated for execution in the upcoming financial year. The CEC directed that new works should be executed based on potential for tourist attraction and works should be prioritized.

The meeting held detailed discussion on projects proposed by councillors of the respective constituencies. The meeting also discussed physical and financial progress achieved by the ZDA during the year 2023-24 which includes construction of Fotang gompa, beautification of Sani Lake, beautification of Phey Lake, construction of eco-
park at Padum.

CEC Dr. Jaffer suggested proposing new projects for the upcoming financial year, including the introduction of water sports activities like rafting and boating. He mentioned considering locations near the TFC cafeteria and Sherbagh, instructing officials to assess the feasibility of implementing these water sports activities in those areas.

The meeting was attended by Executive Councillor Tourism, Kacho Mohd Feroz; Executive Councillor RDD and ZDA, Er. Punchok Tashi; Chief Planning Officer Kargil; Chief Executive Officer, ZDA and KDA; Executive Engineer KDA and ZDA; AD Tourism Kargil, and other officers.
